The Los Angeles Lakers are already in the NBA playoffs. You don’t have to watch a game to know it. Just look at their statistics. They defeated the Dallas Mavericks for the sixth time in a row.
Not including their win against the Mavericks, they are basically the no. 1 team in the NBA. They have a record of 53-13 this NBA season; it’s the same one as the Cleveland Cavaliers. But what’s the difference between these two giant teams? I would have to say experience.
You have to be real for a moment, the Cavaliers basically depends on LeBron James. I’m not saying that the team is bad, but to win NBA championships you have to a have a group effort. James is the one who’s doing triple double’s, while others are just playing their positions. But, if you look at the Lakers statistics it’s a totally different situation.
You have guys like Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom who lead the team in different aspects, such as points, assists, rebounds and blocks. Every single aspect mentioned is managed by different teammates and that shows how much team work there is and it’s not just Kobe Bryant, like many would think. He’s been having a good season, but it just because he’s a good player doesn’t mean they only need him to win.
Going back to the Cavaliers side for a moment, James tries to be like Michael Jordan, because if you look back the Chicago Bulls won games with Jordan and when he left everything went crumbling down and bad. That looks like a similar situation with the Cavaliers, and it’s not supposed to be that way. They have gotten way better since LeBron started playing with them, but they haven’t reached gold due to the fact that they are not working as a team.
In the end, both are great teams, but the Lakers have the better hand of winning another NBA championship pretty soon, while the Cavaliers stick with their same strategy. I’d place my NBA bets on the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA playoffs. They’re looking stronger than ever.

That’s what I and most NBA fans would like to know.
Allen Iverson has enjoyed of a very outstanding career at the NBA, but he has gone from team to team still trying to find where he really belongs.
His first team at the NBA was the Philadelphia 76ers, and during his time at Philly, Iverson immediately started to be seeing as one of the future all-stars. Everybody was buying Philly jerseys of Allen Iverson, even fans of other teams. Why? Well, because Iverson is a small player and people always enjoy supporting those they consider as having ‘less advantage’. Of course this is not the case of Iverson as everybody knows now what he’s capable of doing, but when he started, his little body was seeing as easy to smash by the big men at the NBA.
But I guess one of Iverson’s heroes must be Mugsy Buggs, one of the smallest players to ever have played at the NBA. He was noticeable smaller than Iverson, and in despite of that, was always seeing as a player with a great deal of talent to whom other players kept a great deal of respect.
And Iverson’s talent is surely far superior to that one of Mugsy, but his attitude certainly isn’t, and that’s what made him leave Philly to play for other teams like the Nuggets and currently the Pistons, a team that is expecting Iverson to grow some roots in order to make of him an emblem for the city, specially now that the Lions finished 0-16 at the NFL, one more reason to bring some more cheerful times to Detroit.
The Pistons were close to the championship last year, and with Iverson on the team, it is a fact that the coming NBA playoffs are going to be more than fun to watch.

Basketball star Alonzo Mourning says he will not be continuing playing anymore and retired from the NBA last Thursday at a press conference. Mourning has unfortunately been on the bench since December 19, 2007, after he suffered a torn patella tendon in his right knee and a torn quadriceps in the same leg while playing against Atlanta Hawks.
Alonzo Mourning is a seven-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and was apparently working out at the Miami Heat’s complex and considering trying another comeback, yet he decided to call it quits and leave the National Basketball Association with a his head up high.
Mourning established that he made the decision of retiring from the NBA because of his competitive nature and his all-out style of play on the floor could put his health in jeopardy again so it will better for him to leave the National Basketball Association.
During his career, Alonzo Mourning played for 15 NBA seasons with the Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets and the Charlotte Hornets. Mourning averaged 17.1 points and 8.5 rebounds. He was averaging 6.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 25 games last NBA season before the injury.
NBA fans and especially Miami Heat fans were hopeful that Alonzo Mourning was going to be back since he previously did so in 2003 he made a comeback from a kidney transplant. Although his doctors advised him not to play, a few months ago he said his knee was stronger than ever, but apparently he decided to listen to his doctors and leave the NBA in good terms. We certainly wish he could still amaze us in another NBA season but, if his health is at risk we support Mourning’s decision and wish him the best.

We are getting closer to the deadline for the NBA trade and currently there are many rumors about players being transferred, but not much has occurred.
Right now there is not a clear champion-to-be at the NBA and a good number of teams are still in playoff contention, but in order to become championship contenders, they might have to make some strategic moves within the coming month.
Because of this, we have listed the three players we believe can make a team a true contender:
- Michael Redd from the Bucks: He is not officially available, but since the Bucks’ chances of making it to the playoffs are low, they might want to trade him for the right price. Who can benefit from his services? Most likely the Mavericks who could use Redd to assist Dirk Nowitzki.
- Jamaal Tinsley from the Pacers: This guy can perfectly replace Stephon Marbury in the Knicks as Marbury’s contract expires soon and the Pacers haven’t given that much participation to Tinsley. But the veteran 30-year old veteran might also be of great value to a team like the Miami Heat as he could perfectly back up the inexperienced Mario Chalmers.
- Shawn Marion from the Miami Heat: Marion hasn’t been the player Miami expected and as his contract is expiring, a good destination for him could be the Kings whom are looking to a player in Marion’s situation to clear cap space for the coming season and it is almost a fact that Sacramento is willing to make some roster moves, and most importantly, the Miami Heat contending situation will change drastically if Miami can successfully trade Marion for Ron Artest, who, in my opinion, is a better player than Marion and would team up greatly with Dwayne Wade and Michael Beasley.
There is still some time before the trading headline, and all NBA teams still can evaluate what is better for their rosters.

There is something we can’t quite put a finger on that attracts us towards sports in an addictive way. I have been a sports fan since I can remember: going to the baseball games with my family, watching the NFL Super Bowl, even the Olympic Games were a big deal when I was growing up. So I thought it would be nice to remember some of the greatest moments in sports history. I have only compiled the ones from the 2000 decade, so go ahead and enjoy:
PAY-ROD: MLB player Alex Rodriguez, formerly known as A-Rod signs the richest contract professional sports history: the Texas Rangers gave him a contract for 10-yrs and large sum of $252 millions. This incredible contract was signed on April of 2000.
Lance Armstrong: Proves that the strength also comes from within when he overcame his testicular cancer disease and won second straight Tour De France. A lot of us can learn from him and incredible will power.
Sean Elliot: The basketball player has also proven that one can beat anything at all and overcome health problems. He returned to his team, the San Antonio Spurs, in less than one year after receiving a kidney transplant.
Michael Phelps: Baltimore native and at the tender age of 18 years old, broke his own world record at the US Championships by winning the 200-meter individual medley in 1 minute, 55.94 seconds. Phelps is also only man ever to win five individuals events at the National Championships: the 100, 200, and 400 freestyles meets as well as the 200 backstrokes. Boy, this kid can swim…
Jamal Lewis: This very talented NFL football player has exceeded all expectations: During the week of his September 14th, 2003 game against Cleveland, Lewis said he would break the NFL single-game rushing record if he had 30-carries. He kept his promised, surpassing the previous record of 278 yards set in 2000 by Corey Dillon.
