Gambling’s never ending battle towards legalization

The online gambling topic has become one of the most controversial terms of discussion and polemics between those who think this is an illegal way to earn money and the ones that see this as an entertainment wining activity.

But wait a minute! Let’s start from the beginning. What’s the meaning of gambling? Why is this activity so despised for certain political and powered men?

Gambling can be described as: “The voluntary risking of a sum of money on the outcome of a game or other event”. The real problem is that people tend to introduce this kind of entertainment as a bad behavior or lifestyle. But why is that? What’s the real reason that involves this battle between the gamblers and non-gamblers?

Starting from the point that it is a voluntary action, also knowing that it’s people’s money and a great distraction. What is the point then on restricting it?

Many discussions have been made about this and political forces know that even though they prohibit the online gambling activity, the ones that really like to make their games or contests “more interesting” will probably continue with this practice with or without the politicians’ consent.

Due to this dilemma many recognized politicians are trying to give a little bit more privileges to avoid all the problems that this situation has brought. For example in South Africa, the Select Committee of National Provinces comes to the deal of reviewing the possibility to be the next nation to have a bill that allows the African inhabitants to gamble online.

Of course they will establish the proper mechanisms to avoid all the unscrupulous operators that want to make money by stealing it from people. Also the government will gather the appropriate amount of taxes from this financial activity.

Not going too far, Randy Brinson, a Montgomery physician, is working hard to legalize the electronic gambling by requesting the support of many important and influential members to the House Bill 577.

Brinson’s goal is to save the Medicaid program, giving a juicy percentage out of the revenue obtained by electronic gambling. This is a good cause to fight for, and at the same time this new option could bring a good agreement to both sides.

The gambling industry is always growing and many people join this activity from all around the world. Whether there is a legal way for sportsbooks to provide this activity depends mainly on the jurisdiction where they are located. In the case of price per head sportsbooks these provide a safe way for bookmaking agents and sports gamblers alike to place their wagers legally and safely online which means there will always be options as long as gambling online continues to be the most attractive past-time on the internet.
